ROSY BEYELSCHMIDT
STATEMENT
How could a story have happened - in its truthfulness. Not a question of curiosity, but rather a search for a deeper, fundamental truth - for what lies beyond the superficial or obvious.
Bettina Ruhrberg writes in the catalogue „Presence and dissolution · Strategies against oblivion“ (1998) about my photographic works - „Rosy Beyelschmidt herself compares the individual processes involved in the artistic labour, perceived in the final result as spatial layering or gradation, with step-by-step discovery of „truth“ behind a facade, penetrating into unconscious realms, the location of emotional states and the retrieval of repressed memories. Revelation by concealment, the investigation of one's own self and that of the persons portrayed (who stand for any and every one), is one of the chief spurs to her work as an artist.“
This enduring exploration manifests seamlessly in my recent media works. The video piece »...Ticker Tape« (2024), exhibited at the Musée du Vieux Toulouse, FR, exemplifies this approach:
»A Ride on the Ticker Tape of Lost Thoughts« intertwines the concept of the stream of consciousness with a visual meditation on fleeting memories. A continuous strip of paper unfolds endlessly—reminiscent of an archaic news ticker—inscribed with the faint whispers of thoughts that once danced vividly in the mind, only to slip away like grains of sand. This ticker tape serves as both a conduit and a confessional, capturing ideas that flicker like fireflies in the twilight of our awareness.
